Project narrative
Context and challenge
Small-scale fishing communities in Lamu and Kwale face constraints in enterprise management, financial literacy, market access, value addition and access to organised savings and credit mechanisms. Women and young people also require practical technologies and market opportunities that improve income generation and reduce labour burdens.
Strategy and approach
AFRACA and USTADI will mobilise and profile fishing-community groups; strengthen governance, entrepreneurship, financial management, packaging and digital-marketing skills; connect groups with VSLAs and financial institutions; develop market strategies and a digital marketing platform; and test protective clothing and labour-saving solutions for women fish transporters and processors.
